WELL-READ threads: How to impress & make an impression

www.anthropologie.com,
"Do The Strand Necklace" by Peg & Awl
This necklace gives a little soul to an outfit. When I saw it, I had mixed feelings about what to do: run out & buy it (I live one block from Anthropologie)/run to Michael's & make it/or run to my bookshelf & spend the next two hours with Milan Kundera & a chamomile tea at my side.

I am always surrounded by things to read. Novels, casebooks, journals, magazines, e-mails, reports. So this necklace is dedicated to a nearly impossible dream: that my fashion blog could pay for law school. And another: to never stop reading for fun. So...What's your favorite book (either all-time or for the season)?

FALL threads: Act like a tree and leave.

Jumping into a pile of autumn leaves never gets old.

COASTAL threads: New England meets Trinidad (for a Sunday wedding)

Woody Allen glasses, a cigarette, and a white button down with a pinched tie...
... meet NEON orange, fresh off the boat from the Caribbean.

Pleased to introduce you.

THREAD forward.

Fashion moments & memories mingle, settling into dusty photo albums stacked crooked in our minds.

Prom dress shopping, Dad polishing his shoes in the basement, crisp Levis laid out the night before school starts, full-Windsor tie-tying lessons, job interviews & messy, modern careers. I look back & I see candy ring pops, bell bottoms with iron-on patches, my mom teaching me make-up tricks before a dance recital, an older sister throwing away a homemade beaded necklace from the first boyfriend, a blur of bells that sounded from beneath my second grade Christmas choir dress, & Tinkerbell neon pink lips.

Again, I see these moments refined & remembered today between glossy magazine pages. Moments & memories fuel our world's perspectives on fashion & style. They are the fire that lights it, make it sparkle with grace, & grab our attention. But the past does not dictate the threads of future stories. Fashion is all about the risk, the prophecy, & the curiosity, with a wink & nod over the shoulder to Mama Memory.

Always, fashion moves forward, even when we refuse to ride along.

& so I ask you to join me on the journey of rewinding, re-creating, and revealing something new to the world.
